I am in St. Jean Pied de Port now. I got up @ 7am in Bayonne and walked to the train station to see when the trains were leaving. There was a bus at 7:45 and a train at 11:10. I decided to take the 11:10 train. Turns out you take a train to Cambo Les Bains and then a bus to St. Jean. I found the pilgrim's office (No 39) and then walked up to the municipal albergue (No 55). There's a citadel right across from it. I walked up halfway and I've just been sitting here looking at the view. The albergue opens and 2pm and it's 1:23 right now. I'd say I've had rather perfect timing so far this trip! It's a lot more peaceful here then I'd imaged. So far it feels very relaxing, except, haha, ok, I got my credit card stuck in the train ticket machine. That was very stressful. Eventually I managed to pry it out. They had a really nice piano at the train station, which I played for a bit, but I don't remember much. I think I'll go walk down the streets in hopes of finding a grocery store and bathroom. I also realized that I'm writing in this journal back to front and upside down, thanks to my very tired self yesterday.
I found ice cream! I also made 2 friends, Hannah from California and Bianca from Australia who are traveling together. We walked around and went and waded in the river. I am at the municipal albergue now. Oh, I learned that 'eau' is French for water. How in the world do you pronounce that!? This trip is awesome so far.
